Prosurgics’ FreeHand robotic camera controller was centre stage at the opening of England’s Royal College of Surgeons state-of-the-art clinical skills unit in March 2009. The unit was opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and marked the second phase of the College’s Eagle Project which will provide the UK with one of the most advanced surgical teaching facilities in the World. FreeHand, the groundbreaking robotic camera controller, formed a central part of the advanced surgical technologies demonstrated to Her Royal Highness.
Consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon, Mr Peter Sedman, said of FreeHand “The superior visualisation provided by Freehand significantly augments the skills in minimally invasive surgery. Its simplicity and ease of use should make it accessible to the majority of surgeons and hospitals” Commenting on the inclusion of FreeHand in the unit’s launch event, Prosurgics’ CEO Douglas LeFort said “We are proud that FreeHand is quickly establishing itself as central to the delivery of skills development in leading centres such as this, while at the same time being rapidly adopted by busy hospitals around Europe”.
