Signals Major European Growth and Expansion for UK Success Story in Medical Technology
Prosurgics, world leaders in image-guided robotic surgery, today announced that it has acquired the intellectual property and assets of Schaerer Mayfield Technologies GmbH (SMT), based in Berlin. Prosurgics will also retain the staff and facilities of SMT in Berlin.
SMT, a subsidiary of Switzerland’s Schaerer Mayfield Imaging AG, is a world-class developer of software and hardware for the image-guided surgery market. Prosurgics is expected to launch ‘GuideLine’, a new technology platform for image-guided surgical planning, as a result of the acquisition in early 2008.
“This acquisition strengthens our position in the global image-guided surgery market,” explains Paul Moraviec, CEO of Prosurgics, “ and establishing this presence in Germany supports the company's rapid expansion into Europe, and provides a base for commercial and customer support teams in the EU’s largest market.”
“Image guided robots such as ours allow surgeons to achieve unrivalled accuracy, improving outcomes, and enabling new and exciting treatment methodologies,” continues Moraviec, ”additionally the use of robots has been proven to result in shorter and more effective time in theatre for patients. We are delighted to welcome the highly talented SMT team to Prosurgics and we look forward to realizing the clear synergies that exist between surgical robots and advanced image guided software. “This is a clear indicator of our business ambitions: to continually strengthen our position as leaders in image guided surgical robotics.”
